Not knowing something should NEVER be embarrassing! It just means you haven’t learned it, YET! I’m not an art history major and I’ve never claimed to be. Opening these mini brands is purely fun and has actually sparked my interest in learning about all of these famous painters and masterpieces! In fact, since I’ve started my business in teaching watercolour over the past 8 years, I have actually learned a lot that I didn’t know before about art history and I keep planning to learn more! But not knowing everything is far from embarrassing. There is a wide variety of watercolour teachers on these platforms that come from all different backgrounds. Some that were classically trained and went to art school and some like me, who weren’t. I started painting as a way to cope with my mental health struggles I was dealing with at the time. I ended up falling in love with watercolour and used my education in early childhood to become a teacher who breaks things down in a way that simplifies it for beginners. I’ve never claimed to be an established artist or art historian lol. So when I received and handful comments on my video telling me I should be embarrassed to call myself an artist, I had a few thoughts about that. I’ve received many unkind comments over the years on my videos and they don’t bother me as much as they used to. But when reading these, what I didn’t want to happen is for someone to come into my comment section, read that and feel ashamed for also not knowing something. My goal is to create a safe space for all to learn from the very basics. So let’s continuing lifting each other up and encouraging one another other to keep growing and learning together ❤️
