About This Video

In this video, I show you how real production-grade deployments work for Spring Boot—and why doing it manually becomes really cumbersome. In companies, you don’t want engineers SSH-ing into servers every single time, building jars, copying files, restarting services, and repeating the same lengthy steps again and again. That’s exactly where CI/CD comes in. I explain that CI/CD is a concept, but the real skill you should walk away with is simple: you should be able to automate deployments to production, with full control over what triggers the pipeline and what steps run. We go completely hands-on (no slides). First, I start with a simple Hello World Spring Boot app, build the jar using Maven wrapper, and containerize it with a Dockerfile using a Java 21 base image (Eclipse Temurin). Then I build and run the Docker image locally with proper port mapping, push the image to Docker Hub, and finally provision an AWS EC2 instance (Amazon Linux) to deploy it on a remote server. I also cover the practical stuff you’ll face in the real world—Docker context mistakes, choosing the right image tags, and connecting to EC2 securely using a key pair—so you can replicate the full flow before we automate everything with GitHub Actions.
