Fatbiking Boreas Pass on my Surly Pugsley in Breckenridge Colorado. The pass tops out at 11493ft of elevation. In the heart of the Rocky Mountains, the pass is located on the continent’s always divide. In the mid 1800’s it was a popular footpath used during the gold rush. In 1866 it was widened into a wagon road, and in 1882 the Union Pacific Railroad constructed a narrow gauge railway that was in operation until 1937. Although a high elevation mountain pass, the grades top out at about 4%, to accommodate railway operation. The pass can be driven in virtually any car, and is a great ride on a bike!
