Bird Photography Budget Gear Challenge $1000 | Can I Take Good Shots With An Old 10mp Camera

I challenge myself to photographing birds with photography gear worth a maximum of $1000. Can I still take excellent bird photos with budget gear? Do you need the latest and most expensive gear to take great shots? These are the questions I hope to answer today. Well because not everyone is in a position to have the latest gear. Nearly all wildlife photographers including myself start with what they can afford and work their way up over time. I want to demonstrate that with good technique, and some simple bird photography rules, that anybody with a limited budget can take excellent photos. Well, what gear am I going to use? The camera was released in 2007, it has a whooping 10 megapixels, 9 focus points and can go up to 1600 ISO. It is the Canon 40D. What is amazing about this camera is it does 6.5 frames per second, it has a joystick to select focus points and takes a CF Card. You could probably pick this camera up for $150-$200. Next is the lens, which is arguably the most important purchase you will make when getting into Bird Photography. When I purchased this lens in 2012 I wanted the sharpest, cheapest lens available, I chose the Canon 400 5.6L. Just to make it a little more difficult I am not going to use a tripod or a flash.
