A rock off the interstate. One sharp ping. And suddenly a cracked windshield. 💥🪟 Instead of paying $170+ for a professional repair, I decided to test a $13 DIY windshield repair kit to see if it could stop a crack from spreading and actually hold up long-term. In this video, I walk through a first-time windshield chip repair using the Rain‑X windshield repair kit, showing every step of the process from cleaning the chip to curing the resin in sunlight. No shortcuts. No hype. Just a real-world test. If you drive a lot, chances are you’ll deal with rock chips eventually. This video helps answer the big question: 👉 Is a DIY windshield repair worth it, or should you pay a company like Safelite? 🚘 *What you’ll see in this video:* 🔧 Step-by-step Rain-X windshield repair process 💸 $13 DIY repair vs $180 professional repair comparison ☀️ How heat and sunlight affect resin curing 👀 Before & after results from inside and outside the truck 🧠 Honest expectations. Not perfection. Just prevention This repair isn’t about making the windshield flawless. It’s about keeping the crack from spreading, especially during hot summers or cold weather cycles. For the price, I wanted something practical, not perfect. There’s an affiliate link below if you want to try the same kit yourself. About This Video

If you’ve driven long enough—especially running interstates in TN/VA—you’ve probably heard that sharp “ping” and then looked up to see a chip or a small crack staring back at you. That’s exactly what happened to me. I checked pricing online and even scheduled a repair, but it was $173. So I went the DIY route and grabbed the Rain‑X windshield repair kit from Walmart for $13, mainly because I just wanted to keep the crack from spreading and avoid paying $170+ for one little hit. In this video I do the repair for the first time, step-by-step, with no shortcuts. I clean the chip out, get the applicator centered, add the resin, and work through the biggest issue I ran into—air pockets. I’m honest about it: this isn’t a “perfect windshield” fix. For me it’s about prevention, especially with summer heat and then cold weather cycles later on. By the end, the chip looks a lot more uniform from both outside and inside, and for $12–$13 compared to Safelite money, I’m satisfied with it as a practical fix.
