For a long time after my dad died, Christmas music was complicated! Certain songs pulled me straight back into memories of driving to the hospital… or away from it… passing rows of beautifully lit houses and wondering how everyone else seemed so full of joy while my world felt completely split open. The music became tangled up with grief. With fear. With loss. With moments I wasn’t ready to revisit. It took years before I could listen to Christmas music again and feel anything close to joy and even now, some songs still carry a weight. If Christmas music feels unbearable for you this year, nothing is wrong with you. Your nervous system is protecting you from memories that still hurt. You’re allowed to turn it off. You’re allowed to choose different songs. You’re allowed to take your time. I’d love to know - are there Christmas songs you can’t listen to yet? Or ones that still feel safe? Share if you feel able. 💛 #griefatchristmas #bereavement #griefsupport #christmasmusic #HolidaysWithYouTube
