In this video, I explore a new AI-powered feature that’s been quietly introduced into Google Scholar—something many researchers and students may not have even noticed yet. ▼ ▽ Sign up for my FREE newsletter Join 21,000+ email subscribers receiving the free tools and academic tips directly from me: https://academiainsider.com/newsletter/ ▼ ▽ MY TOP SELLING COURSE ▼ ▽ ▶ Become a Master Academic Writer With AI using my course: https://academy.academiainsider.com/courses/ai-writing-course It’s a subtle update, but one that has the potential to significantly improve how we interact with academic PDFs. While Google hasn’t made a big announcement about it, I believe it marks the beginning of a deeper integration of AI into widely used research tools. As someone who works with academic literature daily, I’m always testing new ways to streamline the process of reading, synthesizing, and citing research. This new feature, which quietly appears in the updated PDF viewer when accessing papers through Google Scholar, provides a dynamic summary sidebar with section-by-section overviews. While it’s still a work in progress, it’s an early glimpse into what Google Scholar with AI might look like going forward. Rather than being a flashy overhaul, the changes are built into the existing workflow—just search, click on a PDF, and a new interface opens up with smart features embedded on the side. I particularly like that this Google Scholar AI tool doesn’t require any additional installations or logins beyond what many researchers already use. It’s lightweight, responsive, and fairly intuitive once you know where to click. You can jump to different sections of a paper, skim AI-generated bullet-point summaries, and even access citation tools like BibTeX or EndNote right from the interface. However, I also discuss where I think the tool needs refinement—such as limitations when opening local PDFs, or the need for more detailed insights like highlighted key results or visual data. That said, for a free tool built directly into a widely used academic search engine, it’s an impressive start. So if you’ve been wondering what is Google Scholar AI, or you’re just looking for smarter ways to read and manage research, this is a feature worth exploring. It may be small, but I think it signals a big shift in how we’ll work with academic content in the near future. ................................................ ▼ ▽ TIMESTAMPS 00:00 Intro 00:15 Google Scholar PDF Reader 01:02 AI Summary 02:23 Sections 02:48 Thumbnails 03:25 Navigation Features 04:11 Cite 04:51 Google Scholar Function 05:14 Related Articles 05:24 My Library 05:49 Managing Settings 06:31 Viewing Modes 07:32 Outro ................................................ ▼ ▽ Socials for shorts and reels Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drandystapleton/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@drandystapleton
