#teamseas #plastictrash #oceanlovers Thank you @MrBeast and @MarkRober that I was invited to take part in the initiative and support #TeamSeas. #TeamSeas is after #TeamTrees the next initiative of YouTubers to help making the earth a better place. #TeamSeas aims to raise at least 30 million USD. The money is given 100% to @theoceancleanup and @oceanconservancy to pick up at least 30 million tons of plastic trash from the world's oceans. This is important because plastic trash has a global impact on ecosystems and this problem has to be adressed on a large scale. Divers are usually very concerned when it comes to the protection of aquatic environments. Many of my subscribers are active in projects like @ghostdivingorg or @ProjectBaseline and conservation is one of the missions of @GUEdivers. Hence, I'd like to raise awareness for this ambitious project and ask you to support this project as well. Picture of Mark Rober: Courtesy of Mark Rober, CC License (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/deed.en), removed background All pictures and videos of the Interceptor are property of The Ocean Cleanup Important note: I know that collection of floating trash is subject to controversial discussion (see: https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2019/01/ocean-cleanup-project-could-destroy-neuston/580693/). However, The Ocean Cleanup contentrates more on rivers now, what should be less harmful to the neuston and I personally think that collecting trash from rivers is a key solution. That's why, despite all controversies, I still support the idea. Moreover, The Ocean Cleanup made a thorough assesment and came to the conclusion that even the collection of trash in the open sea is not extremely harmful to the neuston. If that's really the case needs to be further assesed. However, the Interceptor does not harm the neuston and runs largely on solar power - and leaving the trash in the ocean or aloowing it to reach the ocean can't be a solution at all!
