In 1965 the US Mint issued a Special Mint Set featuring five coins: Lincoln cent, Jefferson nickel, Washington quarter, Roosevelt dime, and a 40% silver Kennedy half dollar. There were 2.36 million of these sets minted and sold in envelopes. These are a good beginner coin collector coin collection addition as they are beautiful and affordable. The SMS (Special Mint Sets) were only produced for three years - 1965, 1966, and 1967. Their finishes are considered "satin" and they have a better strike and are generally nicer than business strike coins minted during the same years. #coincollecting #beginnercoincollector
