Massive Channel Cat Shatters Record

Last month Vince Mack and his wife Kim were going after Clear Lake’s giant channel catfish on their 18-foot Tracker aluminum boat. They were using cut mackerel for catfish bait on 8/0 circle hooks in a deep hole when the giant channel catfish fish hit the cut bait. They took the giant channel catfish to a nearby UPS store, where it weighed 44 pounds, 10 ounces. This made it the new Clear Lake record channel cat. It shatters the previous record channel catfish from Clear Lake, a 33.57-pounder that Frank Gentle caught in March 2019. The world record channel catfish stands at 58 pounds and was caught in 1964 by WH Whaley on the Santee Cooper lakes in South Carolina.
