Movement and games are important for learning to take place, and they are engaging to the kids. Movement is not just for the primary grades either. It is just as important for the “almost middle schoolers” as well. A video is provided with examples. Ways to incorporate movement: Hopscotch- Using painters tape, create a hopscotch template on the floor. Place sight words, vocabulary cards, or even math facts in or by each square. As students hop in each square, have them say the words or the answer to the math fact card. Pushup Place- Dedicate some space on the wall. Place hand templates on the wall (optional). Put up sight words, vocabulary words, or math fact cards. As the students complete a push, they read the card. Door Words- Students use the balance boards and read the sight words, phrases, vocabulary words, or math fact cards. When? During transitions Going in or out the classroom Early finishers When students just need to move Why? Studies show there is correlation between learning and body movement. Movement can positively impact cognitive development. Plus, it’s fun. A fit body= a fit mind. https://sightwords.com Resources- http://bit.ly/movementandgames https://bit.ly/DearDIS subscribe for more tutorials.
