On the farm, we’ve learned the hard way that you don’t get to “wing it” and hope everything works out—because animals and emergencies don’t care about your plans. In this video I talk about the hardest lesson we’ve had to learn out here, and it’s basically this: you have to stay ready, stay humble, and make the call early when something feels off. Whether it’s barn drama, a health scare, or one of those days where everything piles up at once, we’ve learned that waiting too long usually makes it worse. I also share what that lesson looks like in real life for our big Canadian family—how we try to keep routines, keep an eye on the animals, and handle the chaos without pretending we’ve got it all figured out. Farm life is amazing, but it’s not “cute” when something goes sideways, and I want you to take away the mindset that’s helped us: plan ahead, listen to your gut, and don’t be afraid to ask for help or spend the money when it’s truly needed. That lesson has saved us stress, time, and heartbreak.
