In this studio update I’m showing you exactly where DAT HQ is at right now, and where it’s heading over the next few weeks. The brick-effect wallpaper is going in from the corner, behind the windows and up to the radiator area, but I’ve still got some proper ugly bits to sort first—where the old fireplace was, I’ve filled a load of holes, I’ve got more to fill, then it’s sand-back time before I can wallpaper that section too. I’m also planning the layout as I go: TV on the wall, a fake fireplace behind the small desk, and the sofa/coffee table pushed into the corner to give me a clean filming set. On the gear side, I’m reworking the whole desk situation. The current setup is a mess—wires everywhere—so I’m replacing it with a two-desk “sandwich” with perspex/acrylic in the middle to make an RGB desk, plus a separate product desk that’ll be blacked out with drawers facing away so you don’t see them on camera. I also talk through what didn’t work (polystyrene ceiling tiles—don’t do it, the adhesive wrecked the tiles and the ceiling), and what is working: the new industrial ceiling light, the Amazon industrial curtain poles, and the dimmable battery/mains lights I’ve been using. Finally, I get the racking up (took two evenings) so I can start organising products properly. It’s Amazon racking, loads of space, and I’ve even thrown in some fake plants to make it look less like a garage shelf and more like a studio set.
