Your task is to keep the reactor stable, generate steam, maintain power output and survive long enough to meet the required production target. But the reactor is never truly still. RBMK-1000 Simulator is a reactor control simulation for the ZX Spectrum, inspired by the complexity, tension and fragility of operating a large graphite-moderated nuclear reactor. Control rods, reactivity, power, temperature, cooling and steam production all interact with each other. Push the reactor too hard and the situation can quickly become unstable. Cool it too aggressively and you may lose output. React too slowly and the plant may drift into dangerous territory. The challenge is not only knowing what to do - it is knowing when to act. Gameplay Your goal is to operate the reactor safely while producing enough steam/output before time runs out. You will need to carefully balance: Reactivity Too much positive reactivity can make power rise dangerously fast. Control rods Rods are your main way of controlling the reaction — but large changes can have consequences. Cooling Cooling keeps temperature under control, but excessive cooling may reduce efficiency. Steam production Steam is needed for output, but it depends on maintaining the reactor in the right operating range. Temperature and power Both must be watched constantly. A stable reactor is useful. An unstable reactor is a countdown. Status This is an early version of the simulator. Balancing, reactor behaviour, interface clarity and failure conditions may still change in future versions. Feedback is very welcome - especially about difficulty, readability, reactor behaviour and whether the simulation feels tense, fair and understandable. It is inspired by historical reactor concepts, but it does not accurately model real nuclear reactor physics or real operating procedures.
