Christi wanted to take a minute to talk about why it's important to look closer at your emails. Phishing is a huge problem and scammers are constantly getting better at making their emails look legitimate. These tried and true methods help you identify when an email is phishing so you can protect your information. Hey guys, Christi from DPC Technology here talk about phishing and then when I'm talking about phishing I'm talking about Phi not FISH. These are emails that you'll get where they're actually phishing for your personal information. The emails are made to be look exactly like a normal email, they'll look like they came from your boss or your friend or your cohort an they may also like a company that you normally work with, like FedEx or UPS. These emails will contain links that are nefarious that maybe send you to a website that can give you a virus or they have an attachment on them that actually can you if you download it, you'll get a virus. They may also just ask you for personal information your bank account, those sort of things. So the way to kind of spot them is if you get something that looks weird hover over the person. The name of the person that sent it to you. Like there were the email addresses and see if it if it's right. Sometimes it looks right, but it's off by a couple characters. The other way is hover over the links and see if it came from FedEx, but then when you hover over the link it's not coming from FedEx. It's a different website altogether and I would never click on the link or download the attachment. If you think something is weird, I would go directly to that website and see hey do I have a package waiting for me? Does my bank need me to update my information? Those sort of things. Also, if it's a person cohort or your boss asking you to send somebody money, or you know wire transfer stuff, but always have a two-step process in there where you're checking to make sure they really want that done before you actually wire the money. So maybe just add that into your procedures. I get an email I call my boss and just get a verbal yes. Other things could be if the email has bad grammar in it or spelling is off, that's usually a red flag. It maybe it's coming from some sort of scammer, so just be very careful when opening attachments. Try to go to the source always and never give out your personal information. Via email also, you should consider having an encrypted email account to make sure if you ever do have to send anything sensitive that it's encrypted and in that way the person on the other end has to be the exact recipient that you intended it for. Any questions, let us know. I hope that helps, but just be careful on the Internet if it looks weird, sounds weird. You know, don't click it, just do it. Check, check it yourself before you click on anything. Alright, that's it. I hope you enjoyed this informative video.
