Please refer to Part 1 for a closer look: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7eMhXw7rEPs In this follow-up video, I focus on the steps to mastering a specified skill. It is in your best interest to narrow down skills for practice in order of relevancy. I refer to a learning model known as the "4 Stages of Competence". 1. Unconscious Incompetence 2. Conscious Incompetence 3. Conscious Competence 4. Unconscious Competence The stages should be self-explanatory. You must make it your goal to take more and more skills from the 1st stage to the 4th stage of competence. The most crucial steps are from 1 to 2 and 3 to 4. 1 to 2 implies the newfound discovery of an area you are weak in. This is spectacular, because you now have the awareness to fix a weakness. It is pertinent you continuously search for weaknesses and mend them. This is how you inch toward complete mastery. 3 to 4 is a difficult step, because it requires intensely strict focus to bring a sub-skill to the level of unconscious competence. Especially the more advanced you get. This is where many new Melee players struggle, because they aren't disciplined enough to actively bring their wavedashes from the 3rd to the 4th stage of competence. Learning to wavedash is braindead, to be blunt. It's just a grind. Learning to implement wavedashing requires conscious effort. 2 to 3 can be very simple, but sometimes prove challenging. All it is is solving a problem, but sometimes the solution is not so straightforward.
