Update: The song is finally OUT! Link to listen. 🎧 https://linktr.ee/iamdjreminisce Day 8 of my 30-day release challenge: AI cover art experiment. I just designed my single cover art using completely free AI tools in under 5 minutes. No Photoshop. No design skills. No designer fee. THE PROCESS: STEP 1: Gemini AI (gemini.google.com) - Free Google AI tool - Create a detailed prompt describing your concept - Prompt: create a 1:1 image of a beautiful punjabi for an album cover, no text, white background Context: the song is about punjabi, R&b love song with an LA bounce and vibe to it - Generate image - Download the result STEP 2: Google Whisk (labs.google/whisk) - Free Google experimental tool - Upload your Gemini-generated image - Add style prompt for album cover aesthetic Prompt: A mixed media album cover art piece designed to look like a vintage, worn page ripped from a 1990s fashion magazine. The overall aesthetic is lo-fi analog collage. The central element is a grainy, flash-photography 35mm film portrait of a beautiful young Punjabi woman. She is caught mid-motion, laughing joyfully with her head thrown back while dancing, leaning heavily against a textured concrete wall for support, implying she is off-balance. She is wearing a mix of 90s R&B style (oversized vintage denim jacket, crop top) and traditional Punjabi jewelry (heavy gold jhumka earrings, stacked bangles). The edges of this central photo are roughly torn and frayed, revealing a bottom layer underneath that shows parts of a vintage, faded map of Los Angeles streets mixed with illustrations of palm trees. Letraset-style gold foil patterns inspired by henna and paisley designs are rubbed onto the corners of the collage, looking slightly flaked. Across the bottom center, the title "NACH NI" is spelled out using mismatched, cut-out letters assembled ransom-note style from different old newspapers and magazines. The entire image has a textured paper feel, with creases, scotch tape marks, and a muted color palette of sepia tones, washed-out indigos, faded reds, and dull gold flashes. The vibe is nostalgic, soulful, and raw. - Generate multiple variations - Select the best one TOTAL TIME: 5 min TOTAL COST: $0 DESIGN SKILLS REQUIRED: None THE DEBATE: Is this "real art"? That's debatable. Does it work for streaming platforms? Absolutely. Is it democratizing access for broke independent artists? 100%. AI isn't replacing creativity—it's a tool. Like using a camera instead of painting, or a DAW instead of live instruments. The concept is still mine. The vision is still mine. AI just executes it faster and cheaper. TOOLS USED: - Gemini AI: gemini.google.com (free) - Google Whisk: labs.google/whisk (free) 22 days until release. What do you think - is AI cover art the future or should artists stick with human designers? Drop a comment.
