Proxmox

Proxmox is still my go-to because it makes it easy to run a mixed homelab with VMs and LXCs. Restoring backups from my HL15 onto the ZimaCube was fast, and it let me keep my setup flexible while I experimented with things like TrueNAS in a VM.

Buy on Proxmox

You'll be taken to Proxmox to complete your purchase.

Pros

  • +Excellent for running both VMs and LXCs in a homelab
  • +Backup/restore made my migration straightforward
  • +Plays nicely with ZFS storage pools

Cons

  • -You’ll want a plan for storage layout if you mix heavy and light workloads

What DB Tech says

So the Zima Cube was ready to fire up, and because I've got such an affinity for Proxmox, that is the OS that I installed on it
And the cool thing about having TrueNAS and Plex VMs on the same machine is that all of the data is handled locally via Proxmox and isn't taking up bandwidth on my network, so that's kind of a nice little cherry on top
And my ZimaCube Proxmox setup is attached to it via SMB for VM and LXC backups, so it's probably just going to stay on indefinitely
