Welcome to part two of my midlife breakdown: I finally did the thing kid-me always wanted and motorized my LEGO City railway points (switches, if you’re not in the UK). I’ve spent a lot of money in Europe on this setup, but honestly… behold. Using a TRIXBRIX USB-powered controller (I paid for it myself), I’ve now got the technology to change track direction with a button press instead of getting up and fiddling with the junction like some kind of caveman. In the video I show how the controller ties everything together with multiple outputs, so my motorized points and LED signals work as one system. When the track is set to the curve, the LED tells me; hit the button and the points change and the signal changes colour to match—then the tram can head down the straight main line. It’s proper “sit in the armchair and rule the railway” energy, and I’m not even sorry. If you’ve been wondering how automation could work on a custom LEGO track layout, this is a really satisfying way to make your trains and trams feel more realistic (and yes, it’s also maximum laziness).
