What’s going on guys — in this video I break down DNS (Domain Name System) in a way that’s actually useful if you’re learning networking for IT or cybersecurity. DNS is basically how a domain name like google.com gets translated into an IP address, because computers don’t “think” in URLs — they route to IPs. I even do a quick PowerShell demo using ping so you can literally see the domain resolve to an IP in real time. Then I walk you through a simple visual of the DNS flow: you type a URL, your request goes to your ISP’s DNS server first, and if it can’t resolve it, it goes up to a root DNS server, gets the mapping, and sends the IP back so your browser can reach the web server. After that, I get into how DNS gets attacked in the real world — specifically a DoS-style flood where botnets slam DNS servers with requests until they can’t respond. Finally, I cover high-level mitigations: DNSSEC (digitally signed requests) and DNS firewalls with rate limiting to cut down abusive query traffic. The main takeaway is simple: understand what DNS is, how it works, how it gets abused, and what basic defenses look like — then go research deeper from there.
