In this video I break down the cyber security skills (and real-world tools) that are a MUST in 2024 if you’re trying to get job-ready. I’m not just talking theory — I’m talking about what you’ll actually touch day-to-day in an enterprise environment. This applies to you if you’re aiming for cybersecurity, and honestly even if you’re coming out of school trying to land something like network engineering or general IT. First, I cover Microsoft O365 because it’s everywhere, and I’ve had to work with it at multiple companies. I’m talking DLP (data loss prevention), email security concepts like DMARC/SPF, Safe Links/Safe Attachments, and Microsoft Defender/XDR. Then we get into the fundamentals you cannot dodge: Linux administration (basic command line, not “be an expert”), Windows administration (Event Viewer, Task Manager, AD lookups, PowerShell), and lastly networking — which I call the playing field. If you don’t understand how traffic moves, you’re not securing anything.
