Within the past few months, I was able to sail on two completely different ships from the same cruise line. Carnival Ecstasy was built in 1991, but was retired just a couple of months ago. Carnival Celebration was built in 2022. That's more than three decades of difference, and it shows! Let's start just with the size of these ships. Carnival Ecstasy came in at about 70,000 gross tons and carried about 2,000 passengers. Carnival Celebration measures roughly 180,000 gross tons -- that's about two and a half times larger -- and carries 5,300 passengers at double occupancy. But it doesn't stop there. From the bars and restaurants on the ship to the décor to the pool deck, there are major differences between a three-decade-old cruise ship and one built today. Follow along as I go all around both ships giving you a side-by-side comparison so you can see exactly how far things have come in cruising.
