In this video I’m checking out three genuinely useful free plugins, but I’m also showing you a super easy way to grab them (and loads more) without the usual download-window chaos. I’m using Sonisto’s Freeware Plugin Box, which is free itself, and it lets you pick your DAW (yes—Cakewalk is included, which is often ignored) so you’re seeing compatible installs. It’s basically one-click install, with the option to choose VST2 vs VST3 if you want to keep your system tidy. Plugin-wise, I start with HY-Delay Free on a piano part. The default 1/8 dotted timing gives a great rhythmic feel, but as the chords change the repeats can collide and get discordant. Instead of just chopping feedback or EQ’ing the repeats, I show you the ducker feature—think of it like a compressor that tucks the delay out of the way while the dry signal plays—so the rhythm stays but the mess doesn’t. Then I move to Flux Mini 2 for modulation and filters: subtle tremolo, custom curves you can multiply, plus filter cutoff and resonance modulation for movement that actually works in a mix. Finally, I show Blindfold EQ on the master bus—an EQ that removes the numbers so you’re forced to use your ears for both frequency and gain. Long-term, that’s one of the best habits you can build.
