Open Compressor is one of the most helpful compressors I’ve seen for actually learning what your settings are doing, because it shows the threshold against the waveform and the gain reduction as it happens. It’s also genuinely feature-rich: knee visualization, clipper/limiter before the compressor, harmonics, lookahead, RMS vs peak, optical mode, and feedforward/feedback options.
