I rented the Canon R6 Mark II and the Canon RF 16-28mm f/2.8 and took them out in real-world “solo creator” conditions—hot weather, moving around, and letting the camera roll—to see if this could be that perfect middle-ground setup between my Canon R8 and the R5. I also started out testing the in-camera mic straight into the body so you could hear what the audio is like without any extra gear, then I swapped to my mic once I remembered to grab it. The big reason I wanted to try the R6 II was overheating. It was like 90-something degrees and my R8 would usually be throwing an overheating bar, but the R6 II wasn’t doing that, which I loved. That said, I wasn’t rocking with the autofocus—it felt jumpy and spotty even after I changed settings. And the 16-28mm? I’m gonna be honest… I don’t think I like it. The focal length felt weird (28mm wasn’t far enough), and for the price I saw heavy vignetting plus distortion that reminded me of my cheaper tiny RF 16mm. Overall, the camera and lens are “good,” but for my situations, I took them back and I’m good on that combo.
