The Canon RF 70–200mm f/4L IS USM is one of my favorite RF lenses because it’s insanely compact while still giving me real telephoto compression and reach. The autofocus is rock solid, and the image stabilization (with multiple IS modes) has saved a ton of handheld shots—especially on my R8 with no IBIS.

Pros

  • +Super lightweight and compact (easy to travel with)
  • +Excellent autofocus performance for solo video work
  • +Great compression and a strong sweet spot around 135–200mm
  • +Huge effective reach on crop bodies like the Canon C70
  • +Very effective image stabilization with multiple IS modes

Cons

  • -f/4 won’t blur backgrounds as much as the f/2.8 version
  • -Can hunt a bit in very dark low-light scenes
