Met up with BlindstuffMTB to ride Tom Brown Park in Tallahassee Florida. It was a rad time to say the least. It’s 3 am on my birthday, and I’m not just getting back to the hotel from the club, I’m actually waking up. Today we’re making the 3 hour trek to Tallahassee Florida to ride bikes with someone you may already know. I emailed Stefano from blindstuffmtb for a possible meetup since I would be in his home state, and he graciously agreed to meet me at Tom Brown Park. If you aren’t familiar with his channel he puts out high quality, well spoken, and overall entertaining mountain bike videos. They range from trail reviews, tutorials, bike reviews, and he has great taste in bikes. If you aren’t already…go subscribe to him now! He’s made a couple videos on this park so I was excited to ride with someone who knows the area, and also someone who is a more experienced rider. Riding with someone faster really pushes you to excel, but he was kind enough to never drop me. We quickly got to a skinny feature, and after watching Stefano crush it, I gave it a go….or several go’s I should say. After a few pointers and some patience I was able to do it. We pushed on and eventually came to this wooden roller coaster that was an absolute blast to ride, which then led into a couple sweet roll ins. Major props to this park for warning people of drops and overall hospital visit type features. The riding continued and we eventually came back to practice jumps at the bmx track. We sessioned this for a good hour and think we both learned a lot about getting air. Tom Brown park has a ton of great options to ride. After the bmx track we hit a flow track, that unfortunately I’m not too quick or flowy on, but that didn’t reduce the amount of fun I was having. Then it was time for a wall ride. I’ve never done one before so I was leery. Stefano was able to do the high part which looked amazing, but I stuck to the low half and focused on getting all the way around. I wish I had a feature like this near me. We then hit a 2nd flow track with somewhat mandatory jumps since I missed the bypass both times, but I held it together. One of the last features we got to do was this sketchy jump. While not a big drop, the run up and mental hang up of not being able to see over is what made this intimidating. Stefano towed me in, but I let my brain get the best of me on attempt one. Wanting to conclude the day on a high note I was debating if I should skip and drive back to Pensacola un-harmed, or risk injury and overcome my fears. I chose the latter. I stayed closer to him this time, shut off my brain and went for it. Success! Overall this was an amazing experience. Tom Brown park really exceeded my expectations on Florida riding. It truly has a little bit of everything short of a downhill park. There was plenty for beginners and even more for intermediate riders to push their limits. We were there for a solid 5 hours and only scratched the surface. If you’re in Florida I would say this is a must visit park. As for meeting up with BlindStuffMTB, this also was a great experience. He had a lot of great tips, was an awesome trail guide, was patient, and overall just a fun dude to ride with. I can’t thank him enough for coming to hang out and film. If you want to see this ride from his perspective go check out his channel and don’t forget to subscribe! I hope to share a trail with him again…Texas is ready when you are dude!
