Today we’re at the Madrone trails in Canyon Lake TX. Now I know I may look like a complete macho man in these videos, but truth be told I absolutely hate being cold, and with the high today being 41, it’s a true miracle I even left the house. With winter in full effect I can either stay in like a cowering hermit, or slap on my spandex leg warmers and be the mtb hero this channel deserves. Just northwest of New Braunfels Texas, Madrone features 7.5 miles of trail situated on beautiful Canyon Lake. I would rank this place at intermediate difficulty with features that are challenging, but not unobtainable. On this excursion I didn’t see anything so extreme that I would need to bypass it. We even conquered this skinny log drop, but not without some trial runs. This place is exceptionally rocky with plenty of rock gardens, drops, and features that would really push a beginner. You also get a great amount of elevation change in the form of many ups and downs. This is not a long climb rewarded with a huge descent type of place however. While this place is a loop, my trail sense was not tingling this day. Luckily Gene and Paul have been here before and showed us around. If you haven’t been here before I’d strongly recommend taking someone who knows there way around here as I didn’t see many trail markings. In comparison to other local trails I’d say Madrone provides more difficulty than O.P. Schnabel and McAllister, but doesn’t have the miles or more difficult challenges like Flat Rock Ranch or Government Canyon. It falls nicely as a happy medium between the destinations I’ve listed. I really liked this place and with it only being an hour from me I could see myself coming back here fairly often. As with any trail in Texas, plan accordingly in the summer months as you aren’t always covered by trees here. Have you been to Madrone, and if so what did you think? What are some of your favorite trails in Texas? Let me know in the comments below. Also, turns out that riding in winter is actually quite enjoyable if you dress appropriately. If I just harden the fuck up, I can truly ride in Texas year round. As always if you did enjoy this video, please don’t forget to give it a thumbs up (I really appreciate it), and consider subscribing if you haven’t already. A new adventure on wheels awaits you weekly, and we’d love to have you here. Thanks so much for watching and until next week, stay rowdy within reason.
