Launch | Autonomous Bus Service

On 11 May 2023, the partners involved in the CAVForth project invited the press to a demonstration and launch event prior to the buses starting to operate in normal service on Monday 15 May. The Alexander Dennis Enviro200AV buses are able to operate ‘hands free’ over the core section of the route, including across the famous Forth Road Bridge. The route, numbered AB1, links Edinburgh’s Ferrytoll park & ride site just north of the bridge with the Edinburgh Park retail and business complex. The buses still have a safety driver on board, and initially are still driven manually at the terminus points at each end of the route, or if the bus encounters a situation it does not recognise.
