Well, in this video, Gus and I cover the topic in depth to take you from recreational diver to tech diver and eventually to full cave certification. Gus Gonzalez from @DIVETALK is an experienced Cave Diver and the co-host of @DIVETALK with Woody Alpern, where they create a variety of scuba diving content, but most often do "Cave Divers React" in which they react to open water divers, cave divers, recreational divers, and more, often in dangerous situations. They add commentary on what divers should do instead to be safe, how to cave dive and cavern dive safer, and most importantly the why behind the rules of diving and cave diving. At DEMA 2023, I was honored to meet both Gus and Woody, and Gus gave me quite a bit of his time to allow me to ask him questions for the Circle H Scuba community about how to become a cave diver. Once you are comfortable with being a recreational diver, you can explore tec diving and then slowly build experience there before starting "Cavern," and then eventually "Intro to Cave," and then up through certifications and hours in caves until you eventually reach full cave certification. Gus recommends you dive side mount, back mount, or CCR rebreather depending on your needs, but personally dives the KISS Rebreathers (most often the KISS Spirit and KISS Sidewinder) to give him the most valuable resource while in a cave: time.
