About This Video

In this episode, I’m taking a scalpel to some of the loudest orthopedic myths I hear in clinic and online—because a lot of the “common sense” joint advice is either outdated or just plain wrong. We start with a big one: don’t ignore possible fractures. If something is swollen, deformed, you can’t bear weight, or the pain is way out of proportion, that’s not the time for internet bravado—get it assessed. Then I get into how modern orthopedic surgery has changed. Techniques, implants, imaging, and rehab protocols have evolved, and the goal is better function with smarter recovery—not just “cut and hope.” From there, I reframe pain and healing: pain isn’t a perfect damage meter, and rest isn’t automatically medicine. For a lot of back and joint issues, the answer is often graded movement, strength, and load management—not permanent avoidance. And yes, we hit gym myths—especially the nonsense around squats “destroying your knees.” When you respect technique, build capacity, and progress intelligently, strength training is usually protective for joints, not poisonous. The takeaway: question the myth, understand the mechanism, and make decisions like a surgeon—based on evidence and function, not fear.
