About This Video

What’s going on, YouTube? You’re watching Fixed by Chaq, and in this quick step-by-step tutorial I’m showing you how to stop WhatsApp from automatically saving the photos and videos you receive into your phone’s gallery. This is one of those annoying features that keeps eating up storage, because when “Save to Photos” is turned on, your media can get duplicated—stored inside WhatsApp and also inside your Photos app. I even showed you how to check this from iPhone Storage, where WhatsApp can easily take up a crazy amount of space. I walk you through the exact setting to turn off: WhatsApp > Settings > Chats > “Save to Photos” and toggle it off. I also show you how to control this per chat (including group chats), so if one person or one group keeps bombarding you with media, you can set “Save to Photos” to Never just for that chat. And if you still want to keep a specific picture, I show you how to manually save it using Share > Save. Last but not least, I recommend you double-check Storage and Data: turn off Media Auto-Download (especially videos), and use Manage Storage to delete the biggest files and “delete any copies” to actually free up space. If the setting doesn’t take effect right away, restart your phone once and you’ll be good to go.
