About This Video

In this video I’m tackling one of those spaces I’ve been dreading—our shared master closet—as part of the A Bowl Full of Lemons 2025 Home Organization Challenge (Week 8). I’ll be honest: my closet was very full, and a lot of the stress was from the “hidden stuff” lurking behind the clothes. But once I pulled everything out and saw it all together, it was so much easier to make real decisions. And I want you to hear me on this: decluttering is good, but it’s also personal. If you’re not ready to let go of certain things (especially sentimental or “we’ll use it later” items), don’t beat yourself up—do what you can and keep moving forward. I deep cleaned the closet for the first time in almost two years—dusty shelves, baseboards, and floors—using Simple Green (my favorite because it cleans well and smells amazing). I even steam-mopped a stubborn black mark off the floor that’s been there since we moved in. Then I reorganized everything with function in mind: shoes stayed put while I cleaned shelf-by-shelf, I pared down broken or problem shoes, I simplified purses, and I reclaimed “prime real estate” shelf space by moving bulky sun hats out. My biggest win was creating a better laundry solution by using the under-shoe space for baskets, and setting up zones so our closet actually works for real life.
