Event planners are in charge of inviting speakers, booking venues, coordinating audio-visual effects, and planning finances. This is an exciting career for a specific kind of person. In 1999, the Bureau of Labor Statistics recorded the average base salary at $35,930. By 2019, the average base salary increased to $54,880. This is a wage growth of $18,950 (or $948 yearly) from 1999-2019. The estimated 2020 base salary would be $55,828. Using the yearly wage growth average, we can predict event planner wages over the next 10 years. The job market for event planners has grown by leaps and bounds over the past 20 years. In 1999, there were 32,820 employed event planners. By 2019, there were 117,610 employed event planners. The total number of event planners has almost quadrupled in just two decades. The total number of jobs wasn't affected by the financial crisis in the late 2000s and early 2010s. The government is predicting a 7% growth in event planner jobs over the next 10 years. This would be vastly slower than the past two decades. The government forecast is very modest. Also, this is a pre-pandemic forecast. We don't yet know the full impact of the coronavirus on event planner jobs. We do know that tourism is being hit hard around the world.
