DISGRACEFUL USE OF ARMY. FIVE NOTABLE TAKEN AWAY FROM THEIR HOUSE IN BANGOLAN

Five respected elders were illegally arrested from their homes, not by the police or gendarmerie, but by the Cameroon army officers without any arrest warrant and taken to an undisclosed location. More than 48 hours later, their families remain in the dark about their whereabouts. These men were not criminals. They had simply carryied out traditional rites—an activity protected under Cameroon’s legal framework, which recognizes and safeguards traditional institutions and authorities. Why is the army being deployed in matters that fall under civil jurisdiction? Who authorized this illegal arrest operation?
