About This Video

In this short video, I share my go-to AeroPress recipe that gives me an almost perfect puck and a really clean, good-tasting cup. I’m using 15 g of coffee, ground at size 19 on my DF64, and I brew with the inverted method. The key timings are simple: I bloom for 30 seconds, and I keep the total brew time to 2 minutes. After the 2 minutes is up, I invert and plunge slowly. One thing I do differently from a lot of people: I don’t pre-wet my filter paper. But the most important step (and the reason I get that “almost perfect” puck) is what I do at the end—squeezing out the remaining drops of water. I make sure the puck is entirely dry in all directions, ideally in three different directions, and I also dry the surface. If you’re chasing consistency and that satisfying dry puck finish, this is the step to focus on.
