Residents on Iris Street in Ottawa's west end are contending with months of cut-through traffic and speeding as construction on Highway 417 between Woodroffe Avenue and Pinecrest Road, part of the Stage 2 O-Train Western Extension, forces drivers off the highway and onto surrounding residential streets. CTV's Natalie van Rooy speaks with Ottawa resident Adam Osman, who says the backups begin as early as 3 p.m. and has been calling for speed bumps and additional traffic patrols, and with resident Basil Plebon, who says congestion is heavy even on weekends; efforts to renew Dundonald Park on Somerset Street West and Lyon Street North in Ottawa's Centretown neighbourhood are moving forward, with area councillor Ariel Troster releasing a public survey to gather residents' priorities ahead of a planned renewal project next summer. CTV's Kimberley Johnson speaks with Troster, who says approximately $500,000 in ward cash-in-lieu funds has been set aside for the project and describes the scope as "carte blanche" for new ideas, and with Centretown resident Regina Ash, a years-long park user who says she would like to see the newly installed splash pad connected directly to the playground; and thousands of people are filling Ottawa's downtown core this weekend as Ribfest on Sparks Street, the Somerset Street Chinatown Night Market and the Ottawa Asian Fest Night Market at LeBreton Flats run simultaneously, drawing visitors with food, culture and live entertainment. CTV's Josh Marano speaks with Yukang Li, executive director of the Somerset Street Chinatown BIA, who says this year's Chinatown Night Market is the largest ever with 66 vendors, and with Andrew Morrow, a three-year Ribfest regular who says events like these give people a reason to come downtown.
