Efforts to slow traffic on Ottawa streets are shifting to speed cushions after the provincial government banned photo radar, with the City of Ottawa now eligible for nearly $24 million in provincial funding to implement traffic-calming measures at former photo radar locations. CTV's Peter Szperling speaks with Ottawa city councillor Tim Tierney and east Ottawa resident Nina Eguren, who says cars on her street are travelling at 60 to 70 kilometres an hour and that she was never in favour of removing the speed cameras. Data from the city shows more drivers have been speeding in school zones since the cameras were turned off, a trend that Tierney acknowledges, saying he wishes the province had left the cameras in school zones. Resident Shannon Villeneuve, who lives near Queen Mary Street, says she does not believe speed humps will be effective, adding that drivers will simply go fast over them.
