Jonathan Gerlach, a 34-year-old man from Ephrata, Pennsylvania, was arrested on January 6, 2026 after police say they caught him at Mount Moriah Cemetery in Yeadon—allegedly leaving the grounds with a crowbar, a burlap sack, and human remains visible in his car. Investigators tied him to a months-long string of grave robbing and desecration at the historic cemetery, where at least 26 mausoleums and burial vaults were broken into. According to charging documents and search warrants, police found more than 100 human skeletal remains, including skulls, long bones, mummified hands and feet, and even two children’s remains, in his basement and a storage unit. Prosecutors allege Gerlach stole the remains, stored them at his home, sold some online, and left other bones displayed on shelves and hanging from ceilings. He now faces more than 500 charges, including abuse of a corpse, burglary, theft, trespassing and desecration, and remains held on $1 million bail.
