Burlington council is set to consider advancing plans for a major mixed-use development at 1200 King Rd. that would include a proposed event centre involving TD Coliseum operator Oak View Group, alongside community recreation facilities, retail space and more than 8,800 housing units. According to Alinea Land Corporation, council will be asked Monday to initiate due diligence work needed to advance planning, partnerships and implementation for the project, located near the Aldershot GO station. The proposed 121-acre development envisions a transit-oriented urban village featuring residential, commercial, retail, educational, institutional and hospitality uses, along with parks and natural heritage lands. At the centre of the proposal is a planned event and recreation district that could include an arena, aquatics facilities, community programming space and an event plaza. Alinea says the facility could serve as a catalyst for housing development, investment and economic activity across the site.
