This video critically examines the impact of coatings on the hardness of the Chaves Redencion X-lock knife blades. We conduct a Rockwell hardness test comparing cerakoted and uncoated D2 steel blades. The results show that the cerakote lowers the blade's hardness to an average of 57.6 HRC, falling below the desired range for optimal performance, which causes a doubt that this knife was made by Reate. In contrast, the uncoated blade achieves an average of 60.9 HRC, facilitating balanced durability and edge retention. This analysis highlights the significant effects blade coatings can have on final hardness, emphasizing that serious knife enthusiasts should consider these factors when selecting knives.
