Professional US runner Gabriele "Gabe" Grunewald succumbed to a rare form of cancer on June 11, 2019 known as adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC), after first being diagnosed with the condition more than a decade ago. Until her very last day however, she raised money to fight rare cancer and help thousands of lives through her foundation "Brave Like Gabe" (https://bravelikegabe.org/). She left behind many loved ones including her husband, Justin Grunewald, a very talented runner in his own right and someone who continues Gabe's work on the foundation to carry her legacy forward. Beyond the foundation, Justin also honors her memory in the way he continues to run and live on his journey without his life partner. This is his story with his hometown of Minneapolis and the island of Kauai as the backdrop. Thank you Justin for being so open and for personifying what it truly means to be "Brave Like Gabe".
