Gilbert Tuhabonye is a coach and philanthropist living in Austin, TX. Originally from Burundi, Africa - Gilbert survived a horrific genocide attack on October 21, 1993 when tribes clashed in the wake of a presidential assassination. Trapped in a burning building for hours which resulted in being burned over 30% of his body, he used running as means to escape with his life. In his 2007 memoir "This Voice In My Heart" he chronicles that event and his life story and I had the honor of sharing it in front of a live audience on December 4, 2019. Thanks to Pam and Ryan Hess from The Loop Running Supply, we spoke to Gilbert at their venue in front of several of the Austin running community. Additional thanks to Russell and Craig from Jaybird Sports and to Scott from Nike Run Specialty for making the trip happen.
