Climbing this weekend we decided to top rope a big over hang. When ever trying to top rope an over hang of this magnitude a swing hazard is always possible. There are a few ways to mitigate this danger: While rappelling down you can try and place gear while down climbing to bring you closer to the wall. Another way is to just lead your way up on another rope (or the other end) while also still being tied into a top rope. If this was going to be climbing in a traditional ground up style you would also want to keep in mind that your follower my have a swing hazard. This is why you would need to place directional gear to prevent a long swing if they where to take a fall. However the best tool you have is knowing your limits and abilities. Some climbs over your own ability and too dangerous should just not be climbed until you are at that level. Hope this wasn't to Ranty.
