You can have all the best skincare, expensive clothes, even cosmetic surgery, but if you’re unhappy and unkind, it doesn’t read “pretty” to me. What’s in your heart—your kindness, caring, loyalty—matters more than being “drop dead gorgeous” on the outside. Then I share the little everyday things I do that lift my spirits and help my self-esteem: I get up, shower, put on clean clothes, and I do some simple makeup—even if I’m just cleaning house. A little base, brows, blush, lip gloss… it makes me feel ready for the day. I also talk about exercise, wearing coordinated outfits that suit your coloring, spritzing fragrance (yes, even at home), and adding jewelry—costume or gold, it all helps me feel put together. And if you’ve ever thought, “Why bother?” especially after decades of marriage—please hear me: don’t do it for anyone else. Do it for you.
