Some days on the trail feel effortless… this was one of them—until it wasn’t. In Episode 7 of the Portuguese Trans Euro Trail (Section 5), I found myself flying through some of the best mountain gravel roads I’ve ever ridden. Fast, flowing, and endless—this is the kind of terrain that makes you forget everything else and just ride. But the mountains always have a way of reminding you who’s in charge. What started as pure flow quickly turned into a different kind of challenge when we reached a series of river crossings… deeper than expected, faster than they looked, and not something I was willing to gamble on. Sometimes the hardest decision on an adventure isn’t pushing forward—it’s knowing when to stop.
