In today’s homestead vlog, I’m giving you an early May berry patch update. Come along as I take you through the current state of my raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, and dewberries—the wins, the struggles, and the lessons. Then I highlight the fresh new growth on the Heritage raspberries, a good sign of what's to come this season. After that, it’s time for a little maintenance—weeding and cleaning the berry row to give the plants space to thrive. 🖤 Next up, I check on the Chester thornless blackberry, which is just starting to bloom with purple flowers and flower buds—a beautiful sight this time of year. I also show how my Triple Crown blackberry is surprising me: while the main cane is slow to leaf out, there's strong new growth shooting up from the base! 🍓 Unfortunately, not everything is going as planned. My Eversweet and Sequoia strawberries didn’t perform well, and neither did the dewberry plant. I share a few thoughts on what I think went wrong and how I might adjust moving forward.
