Red extreme heat warning in place in UK as Europe battles heatwave | BBC News

A rare red weather warning is in place in the UK until 21:00 BST on Thursday. It covers parts of southern England, as well as the Midlands and south Wales, with people in those areas warned there is a risk of serious illness or danger to life. Southern England is forecast to see highs of around 37C on Wednesday - but could feel even hotter. France, Spain and Italy have been the European countries hardest hit by the heatwave, with it expected to spread to the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany later this week.
