MKBHD aka Marques Brownlee released a wallpaper app called Panels. It became a bit of a controversy as it had outrageous subscription model and looked like an unfinished product. The design of the app was subpar at the best considering MKBHD standards of quality. So I redesigned the app in Figma to fix some crucial UI UX problems and just made it look more professional. In this video I will go through my new design and compare changes from the original panels app. I hope you like this video. ----------------------------------- 🎓 Chapters in video: Intro: 00:00:00 New Design vs Old Design: 00:00:33 Intro to New Panels Design: 00:05:03 Outro: 00:05:29 ----------------------------------- 🎯 Want to learn more about Figma? About This Video

In this video I took MKBHD’s Panels wallpaper app and did an ENTIRE redesign in Figma—because honestly, I couldn’t stand the UI/UX decisions. The controversy wasn’t just the £35/year subscription (roughly $45) and the “watch ads if you don’t pay” vibe… the app also looked unfinished for MKBHD standards. So I downloaded it, ran through onboarding, and immediately hit the first big problem: it asks you to pick five artists with basically zero context—no names, tiny images, and nothing that helps a new user make a confident choice. My redesign fixes the flow from the ground up. I switched the first step to a mood selection (way more user-friendly), then introduced artist cards that actually show names, clearer visuals, and context—and I made that step skippable. From there, I rebuilt the homepage to show personalized suggestions like it’s supposed to, added useful sections (recommended, recently watched, from your favorite artist, trending artists), and put a real search experience up top with history + filters that actually make sense. I also cleaned up the wallpaper detail screen with consistent icons, likes, better artist info (bio + follow), and a download flow that lets you download or set as wallpaper—plus a cleaner full-res option with subscribe or watch-ad choices.
