In this video I will go through each Figma AI feature, and there some serious problems I found, which I think the Figma design team should address quickly. If you have any questions leave in the comments sections and I will get back to you. Source file link: https://framer.com/projects/new?duplicate=kp9U3V1t28PKFXEkwJ2f Want to learn more about Framer? About This Video

Figma AI dropped back at Config 2024, had some issues, got pulled, and now it’s back in beta—so I finally sat down and tested it properly. In this video I walk through what’s inside the little magic sparkly stars menu: writing tools, image tools, and the “design tools” everyone actually cares about. The big one is First Draft, which is Figma’s generative design feature where you type a prompt and it spits out an app or website layout using a chosen library. Here’s the problem: it’s basically just selecting a component library behind the scenes, which means a lot of outputs end up feeling samey. Even worse, the stuff it generates isn’t actually built as components—cards and UI blocks come out as regular frames, so you can’t swap or manage them like real system parts. It also struggles hard with context: I generated a food delivery homepage, then asked for a checkout page and it randomly gave me a Nike-style ecommerce checkout. Even when I spoon-fed it (“for the same food delivery app”), it barely held together. I’m not saying it’s a total lost cause—I actually like the real-time generation and the AI images are pretty sweet—but right now it feels half-baked. As an industry leader, I expected more, especially when other tools are pushing prompt-based design further, and when Figma still hasn’t properly delivered updates to things we all rely on (like variables).
